New Year's Quotes!

Tomorrow...The day I've been dreading.

Now, I don't know about you....but I did ZERO planning. Soooooo, If you're just like me, don't worry...I gotchya covered.

Analyzing quotes is one of my favorite activities to do. It's great for both MS and HS kids on your caseload. I created this activity last year and plan on using it for this week.

I start off by discussing what they did over break, New Years, and the meaning of resoltuions. This gives them some background knowledge. Then, students read through several quotes about New Years that are on the list. Make sure you go first and model the meaning behind a quote (I usually use the ones pictured on top of the page). You can practice with at least 2 other quotes. Once you've gone through some of the quotes and discussed them, have students choose a quote that hasn't been discussed. Once they've chosen, review the writing prompt and have students compose a paragraph analyzing the quote. I included question prompts to guide them! I usually have a modelparagraph ready (you can do this super quick).

If you think the writing might be difficulty, you can easily modify this activity by sust reviewing each quote with your students and breaking it down! It's a great way to analyze their critical thinking skills.

I hope this activity helps get your week started!!! Have a great week back :)
