Holiday Cards!
I love the holidays!! About two years ago, I came across holiday paper and envelopes on sale at Walgreens that I fell in love with. I figured there had to be a way to incorporate it into therapy. There was: writing holiday cards!
Right before winter break, I have students think of a person they'd like to write a card to. I try to encourage them to write to a teacher, but really, it could be anyone. I turn this into an activity that can easily last 2 sessions (there's your lesson plan for the week, yay).
How you're targeting writing skills: 1) First, we brainstorm what we want to include in the letter. 2) You can make an outline so the students can write down their ideas and use it to draft 3) Draft at least 2 paragraphs 4) Encourage students to use specific examples and details of how a teacher/family member/friend has helped them. 5) Once you're done, you can edit/proofread the draft with your student 6) Subsitute overused words for sophisticated synonyms 7) Once you're finished, use holiday paper to write the final draft. You don't need fancy paper, it can just be on construction paper too :)
You can have students deliver it to teachers, or I just do it myself so I know it actually gets there :D. Such a fun/easy activity and so festive! If you visit my TPT store, you can download my free holiday card outline to use with your students, or you can click here: Holiday Card Writing Outline
Do you do any holiday activities with your middle/high school kids?
